I wish I had a TARDIS

I feel like I ought to be writing some sort of sum up post, reflecting on my experiences living in France. But frankly, I don't feel like the adventure is over.

True, this week brings an end to many things. I'm leaving again on Saturday, only this time, when I come back to Lyon, it won't be to my apartment. When I'm packing now, I'm packing all of my things, not just what I'll need on my trip. My apartment is full of the next tenant's things and I've taken my postcards and magnets off the fridge.

It feels like leaving, but not ending. I am not packing up to go home, but packing up to go on and that's always exciting. This very afternoon, my friend Emily will be arriving and on Sunday we will fly to Croatia. How can I think about what Lyon has meant when I have places like Dubrovnik, Mostar (Bosnia-Herzegovnia), Split, Istanbul, Cappadocia and Olimpos to look forward to?

I will try to keep posting when/where I have internet access but I doubt I'll be able to include any photos. I'll do my best with descriptions - put this English degree to some use. I'll be picking up my computer around September 11/12 so I should be able to upload some photos shortly after that, assuming wifi is available.

The photo above makes me think of in Fellowship of the Ring, when Saruman is on top of Orthanc driving the storm to Caradhras. I can't find a picture of the shot I'm looking for but hopefully someone will know what I'm talking about.

  1. Taking postcards off the fridge was a pivotal moment when I was moving out, I sympathize!
